Stefan Mihaylov, FSA, EA, MAAA

Founder and CEO

Stefan started his actuarial career in January 1998 at the San Francisco office of legacy Watson Wyatt (now Willis Towers Watson), a leading global benefits consulting firm. He was responsible for a wide range of actuarial valuations, plan design projects, and union negotiations related to retirement benefits. Stefan specialized in large and complex organizations. He showed strong interest in emerging technologies and never shied from software projects that promised to improve the client experience. During a two-year assignment in London, Stefan split his time equally between consulting and software development.

Stefan left Wyatt in September 2004 to develop the MyVal actuarial valuation system. In February 2006, he founded his own consulting firm, MyVal Center. While developing MyVal on his own time and money, he moved to provincial Russia and then urban Mexico to keep expenses down. MyVal Center had no debt at the time of its inception and turned a profit in its first year of operation. At MyVal Center, Stefan continued to work on some of his old clients, using his new technology to deliver remarkably faster and less expensive analysis during union negotiations and retirement plan redesign.

In August 2018, Stefan released the beta of a new, significantly improved version of MoneyBee. The original version, which he wrote in 2008 under the name of "MyBen Online", was never broadly advertised.

Stefan received summa cum laude undergraduate degrees in economics and mathematics with minors in computer science and business from Graceland University, Iowa. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, an Enrolled Actuary and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

In his free time, Stefan enjoys reading, swimming, gardening, and making friends wherever his many travels take him. A second place holder from a worldwide math competition during his college years, Stefan always appreciates a good math puzzle too.
